SILLAMÄE SOCIETY FOR CHILD WELFARE

 

Sillamäe Society for Child Welfare (SSCW) is a public interest nongovernmental organisation that was created December, 8th in 1989. During these years SSCW has been working actively towards creating a child and youth friendly environment in our society. Each year we have broadened the reach of our activities to initiate broad-based and society-wise noticeable initiatives. 

SSCWs activities are project based. Today SSCW has conducted and supported more than 100 projects not only on the county but also on country and lately on an international level.

SSCW is presently conducting the following programmes in the framework of which new projects will be developed: 

• Active citizen programme
Aimed at developing democracy through citizen education
• Gender equality and empowerment programme
• Integration programme
SSCW as an organisation from Ida-Virumaa is very concerned with issues of integration and develops projects in Estonian and Russian
• Youth involvement and co-management programme
Aimed at increasing youth involvement in decision-making processes and promoting co-management
• Sustainable development programme
In conjunction with Rio+20 conference of 2012
• Volunteer work programme
Initiated in parallel with European Year of Volunteering 2011 and SSCW's grand project "Volunteer for tomorrow" that took place in that framework.
• Children’s rights programme
Increasing awareness on children's rights, especially through the "Notice the child!" campaign. 
• Children and family centre „Notice the child“ in Sillamäe – operating and developing it on a monthly basis.

Sillamäe Society for Child Welfare is a member of Anna Lindh Foundation, member European Anti Poverty Network and Water and Youth International Movement. 
Since 2012 SSCW has also been working towards integrating Russian speaking NGOs into the wider civil society. SSCW belongs to the Estonian Civil Society Development Council (as well as adjacent working groups). Since 1st of August Sillamäe Society for Child  Welfare has consultative status with UN Economic and Social Council.

The tradition of organising forums started on 17.02.2012 in Jõhvi Concert House in the framework of the project „Co-management project“ when Ida-Virumaa Youth Forum  2012 was organised.
